Issued March 2004 CUPRINOL TRADE LOW ODOUR 5 STAR COMPLETE CT636 WOOD TREATMENT PRODUCT INFORMATION Typical Use Cuprinol Trade Low Odour 5 Star Complete Wood Treatment is a colourless, multi-purpose product for use in the eradication of wood decay, including Dry Rot and all forms of wood-boring insects, it also protects against future attack. For use indoors and outdoors.
The treatment can be painted, stained, or varnished when dry.
Before preparing any surface for painting, read the Safety, Health and Environmental information on page 4 about old lead -based paints.

SYSTEM INFORMATION
Before treatment wood should be clean, free from bark, dirt and any surface treatment such as paint or varnish, air dry (25% moisture content maximum), properly prepared and fully worked.
WOOD TREATMENT Determine the full extent of any decay by opening up the area. Remove all infected timber. Locate, identify and cure the cause(s) of damp. In the case of Dry Rot outbreaks, remove a further half a metre of timber, since this may have fungal strands in the timber. Where wood has been attacked by woodworm, cut away and burn all badly attacked wood. Make any necessary structural repairs. Treat the remaining timbers in the vicinity of the outbreaks and treat all replacement timbers, as indicated below. Brush or Spray – Flood all surfaces with the treatment, especially end-grain and flood all joints to ensure maximum protection. Normally two or three liberal coats are required. Apply second and third coats before the previous coat is dry. One flooded spray coat is equivalent to one brush coat. Dip - Submerge ends of the timber in the preserver for the recommended period (see table below). This method ensures that all surfaces of the wood receive maximum treatment.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
During application, avoid spilling, splashing or over-spraying onto surrounding areas since stains can be difficult to remove. Remove splashes etc immediately with white spirit followed by soap and water. If stains on plaster occur, when dry they can normally be overpainted with emulsion paint. Clothes can be dry cleaned by the normal cleaning process.
RUBBER, BITUMEN AND PLAST ICS Rubber, bitumen and some plastics are softened and stained by the liquid product. Avoid over-spraying or runs on to these materials. Be especially careful with rubber insulated electric cables and plastic flooring materials. COLOUR OF TREATED TIMBER The colour of treated wood may be affected by type and condition of wood and may be modified by previous treatments. The treatment may modify the colour of some hardwoods. FLOOR COVERINGS Complete drying of the treatment (approximately 6 - 8 weeks) is essential before plastic flooring or rubber backed carpets are laid or hanging vinyl wallpaper. If a long drying period is not possible, a vapour barrier such as heavy duty polythene sheet may be used. GLUING Glues applied before treatment will not be affected. Wood can be glued normally with most types of wood glue once the carrier solvent has dried. KNOTTING Knotting may be used after preservative treatment (before filling and painting), once treatment is dry. FINISHING OF TREATED TIMBER Treated timber can be painted, varnished, stained or dyed when dry. All freshly treated timber must dry thoroughly before finishing. When painting, solvent based or water based primers may be used. GREENHOUSE TIMBERS Thorough drying of treated timbers in close proximity with plants (not seed boxes) under service conditions must be allowed before introducing plants. BEEHIVES & BEE-KEEPING EQUIPMENT Beehives and bee-keeping equipment must not be treated with Cuprinol Trade Low Odour 5 Star Complete Wood Treatment. Use **Cuprinol Trade Low Odour Wood Preserver Clear instead. METALS Cuprinol Trade Low Odour 5 Star Complete Wood Treatment has no effect on common metals and metal fitments can be used on treated wood. Indoor furniture only at risk from woodworm attack should be treated with *Cuprinol Trade Low Odour Woodworm Killer.
To prevent possible formation of verdigris on susceptible metal surfaces, such as freshly cleaned brass in confined spaces, allow 6 to 8 weeks drying under good conditions prior to fitting the metal parts. Alternatively, varnish surfaces to seal in residual traces of solvent.

However, engineering controls may replace personal protective equipment if a COSHH assessment shows that they provide an equal or higher standard of protection.
