Building reliable normal reference range, As an interpretation guide for clinical practices Clinical research team of Medicore Co., Ltd. Since Medicore Co., Ltd. completed the development of function of autonomic nervous system, which the SA-2000, the first HRV analyzer model in 2,000, we, accelerated various HRV studies to find out the by organizing the research team from neuropsychiatry, correlations and clinical value in various conditions and family medicine and industrial medicine as well as disease related to ANS regulating function as well as biomedical engineering of distinguished universities, mental and physical stress. As a result, now you can have been committed to finding various clinical find almost 6,000 HRV papers published in medical applications and developing appropriate protocols for practical use as well as continuous technical upgrading to meet the physicians and researchers’ needs and Clinical correlates of autonomic dysfunctions The clinical relevance of HRV was first appreciated in 1965 when Hon and Lee noted that fetal distress was preceded by alterations in interbeat intervals before any appreciable change occurred in heart rate itself. And since the late 1980s when it was first confirmed that HRV was a strong and independent predictor of mortality after an acute myocardial infarction, the clinical importance of HRV has been widely recognized But applying HRV test in clinical practice as a reliable in cardiovascular field mainly. And the development of tool for assessing ANS function and balance has had a new analysis method ‘power spectral density analysis’ limitation on interpretation of its result (Park 1994, made it available to study the regulating and balancing Tsuji 1994, May 1999), since there hasn’t been satisfactory standard normal reference and even a few HRV with confidence. Although we decided not to recent studies on HRV values of healthy individuals publish full text paper releasing detailed normal values without cardiovascular diseases were limited to only in any journal to prevent the commercial misuse for the time being, it would be our pleasure if you contact us with any questions or issues for discussion regarding Now after one year’s case collecting and analysis new reference and any other HRV information. process, we’re pleased to announce the completion of the normal reference range by age and gender based on 3,600 normal individuals’ cases, which has been built by task force team organized by researchers and MDs from Biomedical Engineering (Yong-in Song-dam Univ.), Department of Psychiatry (In-je Baek Univ. hospital), and Industrial Medicine and Family Medicine (Ul-san Univ., Bu-san Univ., E-wha Univ. and Han-lim Univ.) All the HRV analyzer models of Medicore were developed based on the standards of measurement and physiological interpretation as well as bio-signal processing algorithms built by task force of The European Society of Cardiology and The North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology (1996). Furthermore, regarding the peak detection algorithm, SA3000P is superior to any other HRV This study has clinical significances in these points; although we take the environmental differences among each country into account, this Korean reference could play a role of Asian (oriental) HRV reference considering racial similarity of physical figures and habitus; the sample size (3,600) of this research is remarkably enough to be applied as a standard We hope that the reference applied in our HRV models, as a reliable and practical interpretation guide, will help clinical practitioners and health care providers apply Building HRV norm reference from 3,600 healthy cases

This study was conducted (1) to build the reliable standard reference of HRV by age and gender by analyzing 3,600 healthy individuals’ cases, (2) to clarify the correlation between various HRV parameters and stress responses individual experiences by investigating demographic, social and occupational factors and (3) to lay the foundation for development of standardized interpretational guide and protocols for HRV test, which will be used in industrial worker’s health check. We conducted this study from December, 2001 to October 2003. The healthy subjects’ HRV values (SDNN, RMSSD, PSI, APEN, SRD, TSRD, TP, VLF, LF, HF, LF norm, HR norm, LF/HF ratio, etc.) measured by SA3000P(5-minute HRV analyzer of Medicore Co., Ltd.) were collected from 5 general health check centers in university hospitals and 5 health checkups of work places. Subjects with present cardiac disease (hypertension, coronary artery disease, arrhythmia and heart failure) or its past history, abnormal ECG wave (ex. Abnormal Q wave, WPW syndrome and others), cardiac hypertrophy detected by ECG and chest X-ray and excessive abnormal RR interval (over 10%) were eliminated from normal group. Before the measurement, time for adjusting to the environment was allowed. Potential effects from posture, intake of food, caffeine and drugs, smoking, illumination, respiration were controlled by the Each HRV parameter’s normal value has been established. (Proprietary data until published, all the reference data were applied to HRV models of MEDICORE) HRV values showed significant correlation with risk factors of geriatric diseases and present geriatric disease, which means that HRV can be used to evaluate the risk factor of health HRV showed significant correlation with job stress, individuals’ subjective stress experiences and fatigue and more in-depth study is needed.
